Between June and August, in midsummer days, you can enjoy magnificent views of the lake from the hills by walking through woods, vineyards and olive groves. The appointment is at 5:30 p.m. and the walk lasts about three hours and ends with a sampling of fine local products in cantinas, osterias and/or agriturismos.

“Summer Sunsets”. Walking in the midst of memories and history, the Città della Pieve area. Meeting point: Parking lot of the Scuole di Città della Pieve. The walk lasts for about 3 hours and must be booked at least 2 days in advance. There is an optional dinner after the walk at the La Rocca of Città della Pieve, for €18.

We would like to invite you to the next Summer Sunsets event on Sunday August 22. The appointment is at 5:15 pm in Citta della Pieve at the gardens at the end of via Barricate – the road that starts at the local Carabinieri office.
The excursion will begin with a descent along the road that, just outside of the city walls, follows the San Selvatico trench, with its steep walls and lovely views of the city. We will walk through lovely terraces dotted with olive groves and you will be able to see how the entire slope facing Mount Centona and Amiata is deeply cut by the water running in the clefts.
We continue enjoying a panoramic view that opens onto the Tuscan villages of Chiusi, Sarteano, Chianciano and Montepulciano, passing through Mediterranean brush to a woods that becomes increasingly thick and moist as we approach the Molinella trench. We can see the trench through the thick typical vegetation, which includes chestnut trees and we will walk to the point where the Molinella trench meets the San Selvatico trench among a thick woods of willow trees, poplars, hornbeam, oak and broom on the slopes.
The walk in the valley among the hills is particularly beautiful. There is a flat area and then we turn right among the many farms to a dirt road that will lead us back to Città della Pieve. Along the way we will pass through vineyards and cultivated fields admiring the beautiful estates that dot the land. The slight ascent becomes somewhat steeper as we go through olive groves and mixed woods, skirting a cleft until we can cross over to the other side. Passing grand oak trees we finally arrive at the first houses of the Barricate district and thus re-enter Città della Pieve. The walk is 7 km long and will take about 2 ½ hours, with an ascent of no more than 200 m.
After the walk there will be, as always, an optional social dinner at the Bistrot of the Cantina Duca della Corgna inside the historical centre of town where, these days, the Palio dei Terzi is taking place. The cost of the dinner is only €18 and it must be reserved by Friday the 20th.
This event is a great chance to see one of the loveliest of Umbria’s cities and walk together into the beautiful sunset…
29 Agosto – CASTEL RIGONE
“Tramonti d’estate”. Walking in the midst of memories and history, the Castel Rigone area among the woods and with views of Lake Trasimeno. Meeting point: Piazza di Castel Rigone. The walk lasts for about 3 hours and must be booked at least 2 days in advance. There is an optional dinner after the walk at the Relais La Fattoria for €18.
We would like to remind you, and invite you, to join us for the last Summer Sunset walk, to be held on Sunday, August 29. We will meet up at 5:15 pm at Trecine, near Castel Rigone, from the point where the road that goes up from Passignano sul Trasimeno towards Lisciano Niccone-Umbertide intersects with the one that goes down to Castel Rigone (1.5km away).
The walk starts on a dirt road that goes in the direction of Poggio Belveduto and Torre Civitella. The views are immediately stunning as the lake comes into view with all of its hills and villages, an ample landscape that will follow us throughout the walk. The path then takes us through the brush as we admire Monte Ruffino, Monte del Lago and Isola Polvese and old roads connecting even older farms, woods and olive groves take us to where we finally begin a slight ascent which takes us back to the dirt road on the crest which will then lead us, as the sun sets, back to Trecine.
The walk is some 7km long and should take about 2½ hrs with an easy ascent of 130 m.
After the walk we will get in the cars and head towards Castel Rigone (3mins away) where the Corte del Relais La Fattoria will have prepared a lovely sampling dinner for €18 per person. Please reserve your spot at the dinner table by Friday the 27th.
