Description

The Mainò family has been working their land since 1870 in a valley that covers some 35 hectares located between Umbria and Tuscany. Their terrain borders on the Montepulciano Lake Nature Oasis near Castiglione del Lago.
Giordano, heir to the family Mainò tradition, delights in welcoming visitors to the farm and explaining everything that goes into the cultivation and harvest of their crops – from the land to the dinner table.

They grow a wide variety of crops, ranging from wheat, beans, barley, lentils, and maize to grass peas, sunflowers, chickpeas, millet, and spelt. Among the legumes, the Fagiolina del Trasimeno is particularly noteworthy. Its botanical origins lie in Africa but spread throughout Etruria—and consequently to the Lake Trasimeno basin—thanks to the commercial activities of the Etruscan civilization.

Today, the fagiolina del Trasimeno is a unique and inimitable product that has developed specific, distinctive genetic characteristics—so much so that, in 2000, it was recognized and designated as a Slow Food Presidium.

It is typically consumed as a fresh legume and is distinguished by its delicate nature and small size, which make it particularly pleasing to the palate.

The processing of produce from this bountiful land is personally overseen by the Mainò family, who transform it into colorful packages of flour—ideal for making focaccia, crêpes, pizza, torta al testo, and schiacciata. Of particular note are the fischiotti, pappardelle, and strangozzi pastas made from "Cappelli" durum wheat, as well as spelt tagliatelle and various legumes—staples of Umbrian tradition—perfect for enriching first courses, soups, and side dishes.

The farm has an on-site sales point where you can buy the legumes and cereals, as well as other produce, but their products are also available in stores as well as sold to fine restaurants.
