The Package: Norcia and Cascia: Rafting on the Nera River
Durattion: 1 day
A land where water created the beauty and nature’s harmony.
Why chose this package?
Water as wellness therapy
Water heals, it quenches thirst and makes the soil fertile; its gentle flow draws our minds away from everyday worries. Leave your cares behind and head to the Valnerina valley, bathed by the Nera River.
As you make your way along the riverbank to the starting point for your soft rafting excursion, let yourself be captivated by the beauty of white willows, black alders, and poplars nestled amidst lush vegetation. The landscape takes on an enchanted aura thanks to the greenery of holm oaks and downy oaks, accented by the unusual pinkish-purple hues of the bloom on the Judas tree.
Immersed in nature, listen to the songs of the Cetti's warbler, dipper, kingfisher, and crag martin. If you look toward the rocky slopes, you might even spot birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon and the short-toed snake eagle.
Norcia: land of saints and tasty food
Discover Norcia, nestled on a plain between the Valnerina valley and the Sibillini Mountains within the National Park of the same name. This peaceful town welcomes you with the genuinity of its residents and a desire to imbue visitors with fond memories—ensuring that any departure is merely a "see you again soon."
In Norcia, you can savour delicacies from its renowned artisanal pork butcher shops and visit the Basilica of Saint Benedict, the Patron Saint of Europe. Before heading home, if you visit between late May and mid-July, don’t miss the truly spectacular flowering of the Castelluccio di Norcia plateau (located about 40 minutes from town): a breathtaking expanse of multicolored blooms—a truly unique sight.
Cascia: deep in lush nature and home to Saint Rita
You are welcomed by a relaxing landscape, where the colours of beech, downy oak, and Italian maple frame this low-mountain village. A slower pace of life awaits you—gatherings in the town square and chats with locals who have plenty of stories to share. In the birthplace of Saint Rita, you can visit the Sanctuary that houses her sacred remains.
