Palio delle Barche, Passignano sul Trasimeno

The 43rd edition of the Palio delle Barche officially 🟢begins on 19 July. This exciting land and lake competition sees the athletes of the town’s four districts racing through the streets with boats hoisted above their heads to the lakeshore, then relay the boats to new teams which race them on the water. 

And don’t miss the Awarding of the Keys and the evening historic procession through the streets on the 19th of July.  

During the week, each district gets to practice, 🟢starting on 20 July with the Rione Centro Storico( whose symbol is the lake’s Queen Carp).  The evocative nocturnal atmosphere imbues the awarding of the Perla del Trasimeno and then the Fire at the Castle with a special magical touch.   

🟢On Tuesday, 21 July, the Rione Centro 2 (whose symbol is the lake’s Pike fish) gets their turn, and don’t miss the Piccolo Torneo Medievale at the Giardini del Pidocchietto.

🟢On Wednesday, 22 July, the rione Oliveto (whose symbol is the lake’s Capitone fish) get to practice. 

🟢As we near the big race day, on Thursday 23 July, the Rione San Donato (whose symbol is the lake’s Perch fish) has their practice run. 

🟢Friday 24 July, dress rehearsal time for the Palio delle Barche and the Corsa delle Brocche.

🟢Saturday 25 July, everything is ready for the final race – the districts launch their challenge! 

🟢Sunday 26 July – historic procession before the race begins and then… may the best team win!!!!
