Goethe, Stendhal and Byron were just some of the travellers doing what was known as the Grand Tour, they were poets and painters who, between the 18th and the 19th centuries, roamed through Italy to enhance their cultural education and get a taste of the old world.
Umbria and Lake Trasimeno were on the route as they slowly made their way south to Rome and Sicily.
The exhibit entitled The Land of Water: Umbria, the blue heart of Italy, aims to highlight those places in Umbria where water has made the territory remarkable: the Marmore waterfall, the Clitunno ponds, Lake Trasimeno, and the Tiber River, much of which runs through Umbria.
